Common Questions

What is the Australian citizenship test?

It is a computer-based test of your knowledge of Australia, the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship, and Australian values, taken as part of the citizenship application. You answer 20 multiple-choice questions in 45 minutes. To pass you need at least 15 correct (75%) AND you must answer all 5 Australian values questions correctly.

What is the test based on?

Everything the test covers comes from the official study booklet, “Australian Citizenship: Our Common Bond”, published by the Department of Home Affairs. AussieTizen lets you practise its testable material across 5 sections — Australia and its people, democratic beliefs, rights and liberties, government and the law, Australian values, and key terms — so nothing catches you off guard.

Where do I take the test?

You sit the test on a computer at an appointment arranged by the Department of Home Affairs, and it is in English only. AussieTizen is separate study software that helps you get ready before your appointment.

What happens if I do not pass?

You can sit the test again; the Department of Home Affairs arranges another appointment. Practising here first helps you pass on the first try, including the 5 Australian values questions that must all be answered correctly.

Does this replace the official study booklet?

No, and it is not meant to. AussieTizen is built for daily practice and review based on the official material. It is an independent study tool and is not affiliated with the Department of Home Affairs or the Australian Government.

Can I practise on a phone?

Yes. AussieTizen runs in any browser, so you can study on your phone during a commute or break and pick up right where you left off on your computer.

What does full access include?

A one-time access pass unlocks everything: the full question library, all 102 topic practice tests across the 5 sections of the official study booklet, all 133 timed mock exams plus a random-draw exam, and flashcards. Mistake review and progress tracking are included, and there is no automatic renewal.
